Dear CMF Family,
I hope this letter finds you and your loved ones safe and well. As a former CDC epidemiologist and founder of this organization, I felt the need to reach out to you in these unprecedented times.
It is in times like these that I’m reminded of the power of community and supporting one another in overcoming the threats of COVID-19. As a result of this pandemic, we have postponed our Healing Through Music Gala 2020 that was scheduled for April to sometime in the fall.
Earlier this week, we took the steps of halting all music therapy sessions in order to protect the health of our vulnerable children as well as our talented music therapists. Unfortunately, these kids will not have access to the healing power of Music Therapy until we get clearance from the CDC and local health officials. However, our work on behalf of our children will not stop during this period. We are committed to our mission.
The way I felt this past week (as I’m sure many of you have felt in practicing social distancing) reminds me of the way our sick children feel on a daily basis; anxious, fearful, and often in pain. While we are unable to help them in the coming weeks, I urge us all to rally and think about how we will impact their lives once our music therapists get back into the hospitals and the communities we serve.
In the meantime, stay informed about COVID-19 by visiting the CDC website, and maintaining high spirits and committing to acts of kindness. Feel free to reach out to me if I can be of help in any way.
With gratitude,
Raffi Tachdjian
