Children’s Music Fund continually strives to promote wellness awareness programs across the country, and National Health Center Week (NHCW) is no exception. NHCW is an excellent example of coming together as a community to share the benefits of community health centers. The weeklong campaign raises awareness of innovative health centers that provide “access to affordable, high quality, cost effective health care to medically vulnerable and underserved people throughout the United States.”

According to the Daily Herald, health centers are vital in supporting community wellness. “One of the bright spots in America’s healthcare system, health centers started over 50 years ago as a pilot project during President Lyndon Johnson’s War on Poverty. Today, they have compiled a significant record of success. Health Centers not only prevent illness and foster wellness in the most challenging populations, they produce innovative solutions to the most pressing healthcare issues in their communities.”

The Daily Herald continues: “Throughout the month of August, VNA Health Care will provide thousands of low-cost school physicals, along with other vital primary care for adults and children, through its community health centers and mobile health van.”

President/CEO of VNA Health Care, Linnea Windel states, “To continue to improve the health of our patients, we focus on several key areas, including enhancing the primary care provider relationship, thoughtful care coordination, and frequent health promotion initiatives. We couple these patient-centered efforts with a systematic approach to quality and the right technology to support care and communicate with patients.”

Health centers around the country help connect ill children to music therapy programs, and for that we are grateful. As we continue to support the powerful effects of music therapy in promoting social and general wellness, CMF also wants want to encourage you to get involved in this special week within your own communities. Share with us the ways that health centers have served your community, by using the hashtags #musicISsocial, #NHCW16 & #CHCsInnovate.
