While doctors use medications to treat symptoms, Music Therapy can provide additional healing, both for the body and the soul. Engaging sick children in music-making and listening helps reduce pain, fear and anxiety, and provides a much-needed distraction from their conditions and medical treatments.
We connect eligible children to board-certified Music Therapists who provide personalized treatment plans.
We gift new musical instruments to our CMF Kids, so that they continue their healing process throughout their life.
We conduct research on Music Therapy to further innovate the field and work to integrate music with medicine.
Today, we mark a milestone in the history of our organization by expanding access to Music Therapy for children through a ‘first of its kind’ collaboration with UCLA Health. Through the support of our donors, our Music Therapy Intern Sponsorship fully-finances clinical internships for two Music Therapy students at UCLA Health.
This nine-month program provides over 2,000 healing hours of Music Therapy while supporting the educational requirements for board certification and licensure of students to attain the highest level of distinction in the field of Music Therapy.
The recipients of the first Children’s Music Fund Music Therapy Internship Sponsorship are Audrey Creevey and Rose Koo, graduates of Berklee College of Music’s undergraduate program. We are proud to lead this effort to bring the healing benefits of Music Therapy to children and their families, create awareness for this therapy and advance opportunities for individual pursuing this profession.
